The story

Finca Concepción Buena Vista is located in San Martín Jilotepeque, Chimaltenango, at approximately 1,800 masl. The Solano family has historically committed to the Red Bourbon variety — a decision made by the previous generation and continued by David and his brother Eddy, who currently manage the project together.

David is widely recognized within the Guatemalan specialty coffee scene. After winning the Guatemalan National Barista Championship in 2018 and representing his country on the world stage, he returned to the farm with a clear vision: to prove that Guatemala could be a leader not only in traditional quality but also in innovation and process development.

What truly makes David unique is his systematic approach to research and experimentation. With his team, he developed an in-house laboratory where they study yeasts and cultures derived from different fruits and natural environments. Through years of testing, they have refined protocols that allow for precise control of fermentation and maximum expression of the coffee without introducing defects. His experience as a competition barista gives him an exceptional understanding of the final cup and what the most demanding roasters are looking for.

The relationship with Belco is built around a shared vision of responsible innovation and valuing work at origin. David's coffees are distinguished by the combination of impeccable technical execution and differentiating sensory profiles — characteristics that have positioned his lots among the most sought after by specialty roasters. Shared values include knowledge-based innovation and experimentation, a permanent pursuit of quality and continuous improvement, as well as Transparency and long-term relationships built on trust.

This coffee expresses with remarkable precision the potential of the Caturra variety grown at 1,800 masl in Chimaltenango. The double fermentation adds additional layers of aromatic complexity while maintaining a clean, structured cup — a direct reflection of David Solano's research and experimentation at Concepción Buena Vista.

What we loved was the clarity with which the fermentation enhances the fruit notes and natural sweetness. What surprised us was the structure and definition of the cup — excellent balance maintained despite the complexity of the process.

Unmissable because it demonstrates how processing innovation can elevate a classic variety without losing the identity of the origin. Tasting notes: stone fruits, ripe citrus, honey, panela, and white flowers — bright and juicy acidity, silky body, and a long aromatic finish.
